Amazing service! Great food. We'll be back. Cafe con leche was excellent. Fast and good, can't beat that.

A friend and I had breakfast there yesterday and we will definitely go back there. Even though it's small and not necessarily the best place to sit down and have a long talk (due to the limited seats available and the small place), the food was great and the service extremely attentive and friendly. The prices are also very hard to beat- we both had a full breakfast with coffee and apple juice for under 20 bucks.

Not as good as the last time I was here. Eggs Benedict not very good. Egg overcooked, used ham and not Canadian bacon, English muffin needed to be toasted more. The hollandaise sauce was not good and no flavor. Potatoes were good. I don't suggest the eggs Benedict.

had a Cuban sandwich - it was good - home fries not so good- dinners to go - just so-so- out of breaded steak - had chicken Milanese ,rice, beans plantains- also dinner for bf pork chunks- same rice and beans- for those that have not had good latin food I guess this would be suitable for the location - one scoop of rice- beans were watery and serving were very average - Milanese was nothing compared to what I had - I am thinking this is good for breakfast and a sandwich - sides are limited - place was clean and server was friendly -

Don't be fooled by the unassuming store front. Thie American Coffee Shop is a real find in Oakland Park. Don't hesitate to go in. It is clean, simple, almost like a diner, but the food is superb. Breakfast and lunch are specialties. when I go with friends I always reccomend the shredded pork with onions, served with beans and rice and fried plantians. WOW you won't be sorry! The owner is a nice guy and has advertised in the Hot Spots Magazine before. I hope people see his ads and visit. It's worth it! The ONLY thing I see as an issue is that they only have booths set up for parties of 4 or less, so if you have a larger group, you would have to split up.

What a great find! Amazing omelettes and home fries at a price that can't be beat. It's the very best you could expect from a local diner. This is a diner but our group of seven took two booths and had a blast. Service is excellent. Try the Irish omelette and add American and Swiss cheese.

Don't judge a book by it's cover, the shopping center gears towards hood... Talking the advice I just mentioned my boyfriend and I walked in and found a hidden gem. Prices are super cheap and the food was tasty. By the time we left the place was packed.... When I'm back down in South Florida I will definitely return.

Good food. Good prices. Super friendly staff. This was an awesome little find in my new neighborhood. It's in a random strip mall that's really starting to show it's age but don't let it scare you away. Give this place a shot. The coffee, pancakes, bacon, eggs, and potatoes I had were all great. Their staff was super friendly and the owner introduced himself to us. He was a genuinely nice guy and I'm definitely spreading the word about the place. :)

Another family run small business. Great breakfast spot with my favorite Cuban coffee. Great energy with that old school diner feel. I had eggs over medium with bavon ! The famous number 2! Prompt and clean! Delicious!

What a great find! Great food at a great price with fantastic service. We're visiting the area so we looked on Yelp for a good breakfast place, and decided on here because of all the high ratings. It's a tiny place in a sketchy looking strip mall, definitely no frills inside or out, so we were a little skeptical at first. But don't let that drive you away!! Inside the place is small and clean, and the service is fast and friendly. They offer a good variety of menu items for both breakfast and lunch. We tried the spinach & feta omelet (special of the day) with homefries and the waffle. The omelet was really yummy, had a nice egg-to-filling balance and wasn't heavy or greasy. The homefries were so tasty, they put some sort of seasoning on them that really gives them a great flavor. The waffle was also good, a little more dense than most diner-style waffles, which makes me think the batter is homemade. Also tried the Cafe Con Leche--wow, talk about good coffee! The owner came and introduced himself to us during our meal, and kept checking with us to see how we were enjoying our meal. He was a really nice guy, seemed genuinely grateful we had chosen to come to his restaurant. Overall everything was excellent, we were quite impressed and would definitely come back again!

American Coffee Shop is the best kept secret in the neighborhood. This is a tiny diner-style place where coffee is hot and flowing and service is A+. We stopped by one Saturday morning after doing a quick yelp search on my phone. This type of find is why I joined yelp in the first place. No frills, down to earth food that I would've never discovered had it not been for Yelp. Hiding in a little strip mall, wedged between a barber shop and a convenience store is the American Coffee Shop. The place was mostly full of 'regulars', which the servers knew by name and asked for the "usual". Eggs in whichever way you want prepared and a few griddle (aka waffles/pancakes) selections. What I loved the most about this place was the service. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. And before we left the manager (?) stopped by and introduced himself. He asked for our names and how we found out about his place. He was very excited to hear he had good reviews online. He made us feel very welcome... and we will definitely be going back.

  • Eitan F.

The service is excellent, the place is very clean. We really did not care much for the food itself, which was pretty regular.

    (3)
  • Bryan B.

No Wi-Fi! I would hardly call this American coffee shop. It is a Hispanic kitchen, which is fine if that's what you want, but not a coffee shop like one would think! Misleading name and you cannot conduct business here. Also, in a sketchy strip mall. Would not recommend

Great breakfast place, the Empanizado steak is the best I have had and I also recommend the French toast.

My husband and I ate here this morning based on Yelp reviews as we had time to kill before returning to Boca. What a delight! Small place but excellent food and service. I had the eggs Benedict which came with great hadhbrowns. Generous portions. My husband had the breakfast scramble. ... I had to keep him from licking the plate! Felt like we were on vacation!

Great food, good service, plenty of coffee refills. Friendly crew. Attention to detail and customer service. I had the typical scrambled eggs and bacon with home fries. Very good. I visit often.

Words to describe American Coffee Shop: Diner. American. Foreign. And.. CAFE-CON-LECHE! The ccl (cafe con leche) is usually why I come in here. Because it's big, delicious and not that expensive. When I say "make it sweetened", they always asked if I want it sweetened lightly or regular. This is a good thing to ask because sometimes, you are going to get the coffee equivalent of Georgia/Alabama sweet tea sugar volume added to your coffee and milk. On the occasion that I want a breakfast or lunch they have me covered as well. Despite being the "American" coffee shop, they also have a smaller selection of food from Latin America as well. It's authentic and tasted authentic which is good to me!

  • Lisa B.

We've only had breakfast here, but we liked it so much that we went three times in four days. Whether over medium or scrambled, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the corned beef hash had the ideal balance of moist and crispness. Also, this is the first place ever where I've ordered bacon "extra crispy" and it truly was completely crunchy without being burnt. In addition, the grits were yummy, the French toast was tasty, and the food comes out hot and miraculously stays hot until it's eaten. I also tried their Cuban coffee, which they can make less strong for coffee wimps like me. The staff is attentive and personable, with the owner himself asking if all is fine, without hovering or being intrusive. Finally, the prices are downright cheap!

Just left this place sat for 20 min. At a table that was cleaned for me to sit and then treated as if I were invisible. At least could have offered me coffee. I actually had time to start the timer on my iPhone for a 5 min countdown to see how long before someone acknowledged me wanting to order. I left when the timer was up. The insult to me. They were not even remotely busy. 9 diners in the joint. It's in a sketch neighborhood but after reading reviews thought I'd give it a go. I even ignored the fact the menu had dried food crusted on it. Can't give a review on the food but I won't go back plenty of diners in the area. This place can screw. Just sat myself down at Diner by the Sea. On commercial blvd. first time here. Been here 3 mins got coffee already and placed order. This place has 11 diners eating so busier than Nasty American coffee shop. I'll review diner by the sea when done eating. Don't waste your time at American Coffee shop. Run

I really enjoyed this diner. Got a great veggie and swiss omette just like I like. Ordered café con leche Cuban coffee based on the reviews and truly loved it. Wait staff was very helpful and moved quick. Was glad to see a full house for them at noon on Sunday. I highly recommend it if you like little diner experiences.

This place is like a gem hidden in the rough. We came by for a late breakfast and was instantly greeted and asked for our drink orders. Cafe con leche was delicious (even though I still find it odd when it is served without sugar. I guess that is what happens when you aren't in Miami!). We had the house special egg sandwich and egg / bacon / house fry special which was excellent! The bacon was thick cut and the house fries were that perfect mix of crispy and soft. I really enjoyed how the grill was in the front of the restaurant so you could see how the entire staff works together to get your meals out fast. Overall - loved it! Cheap food, great quality and friendly staff.

Me and my bf come here every Sunday. It's a great little place for breakfast and lunch. They also have lunch specials! It's pretty small outside but that doesn't take away from the home style cooking. Service is always friendly and quick. Check this place out for breakfast. You won't regret it.

What a great find. Came here this morning after seeing the great Yelp reviews. You'd pass by this place every time unless you knew about it; it's that unassuming from the street. The owners are the friendliest and most welcoming people and the food was top notch...best egg sandwich I've ever had and the coffee was great too. It was very inexpensive as well. This is going to be my new breakfast spot in Fort Lauderdale.

I probably should have stuck with the Latin dishes on the menu. My partner's pulled pork sandwich was really good. But my corned beef hash was right out of a can. Why even put it on the menu?? Cafe con leche was awesome. Maybe I just ordered wrong.

    (2)
  • Sabrina Y.

Excellent coffee & breakfast!! I had the Cafe con Leche & an English muffin breakfast sandwich. Canadian bacon, egg, & cheese...it did not disappoint! It's just like homemade with perfect portion sizes. It's a small storefront, but the friendliest staff you'll find. Highly recommended!

  • Paul K.

Good coffee, maybe the best in the area. However, our last visit we got slow service and the food was marginal. Ordered ham and eggs. The ham was two paper - thin slices of deli ham. Menu remains too limited with breakfast specials "Oh, we don't know yet" and it was 8:30 - an hour and a half after they opened. Menu needs reworked.

This place is a gem. Great food, super-friendly staff, clean environment. Just an absolute treasure. We go for breakfast on the weekends, and the specials are reasonably priced and delicious! Coffee cup never runs dry. There is limited seating, although we've never had a problem getting seated in under 5 minutes. Finally, this place is covered in well-done patriotic murals! Totally awesome! We love it, and we hope they never change!

This place is great! I had a delicious cafe con leche and the eggs benedict. The hollandaise was savory and the eggs perfectly poached with a slice of amazing ham. It wasn't too salty and even the English muffin was toasted just the right amount. It came with a side of yummy seasoned potatoes. And on top of it all the prices are super reasonable! Nelson introduced himself and was very friendly and helpful in making decisions on what to order. I will definitely go back when I visit Fort Lauderdale!

  • Alexandra M.

I had this place bookmarked for awhile but my expectations weren't too high, even with a lot of my Yelp friends' 5 star reviews. When I saw they serve breakfast all day, I took advantage when I came in at 1pm. A man name Nelson, assuming the owner, approached me, he could already tell I was new; offered his hand in salutations, gave the most warmest of welcomes. He asked where I've heard of them and I said Yelp. I could tell he was being genuine, not a desperate attempt for a positive review. All this excellent service is what gave me that extra star. The food unfortunately fell short. Got the 2 french toast, 2 eggs, sausage or bacon (got no meat), potatoes to substitute, and cafe con leche. The maple syrup was, well, Aunt Jemima. No seriously, the bottle and everything, so disappointed in that. The bread wasn't fluffy, pretty lifeless, the eggs were okay, and potato's were bland and mushy, was hoping for golden and crispy. The coffee was okay, needed to added sugar Synopsis of my visit; goes to show how crucial customer service is, I give them the utmost recognition for that. It was enough to see the positive, but not to out-shine my less-than-mediocre food. The menu is left to my imagination so I think I would return to try a sandwich, or lunch.

This restaurant is a little hole in the wall in a very old plaza. As foodies know, those places are often the best places. American Coffee Shop is clean and friendly. Excellent service. My coffee was kept topped-up and hot. Milton and Paz introduced themselves to us and showed that they really are looking for regular customers, unlike places like JoJos Tacos who won't lift a finger to accommodate their customers. My husband said it's hard to screw up eggs and hash. I think he's wrong. Your eggs can be overcooked and the hash can be cold. No issues with that here. We'll be happy to visit again soon and support this local business.

  • Kim T.

This is a small dinner consisting of 10 seats at the counter and 8 booths with one two seater outside. When you walk in you'll notice the murals on the wall all have a very patriotic theme. The food is pretty good especially for the price. On the day we went, I ordered their turkey and spinach omelet special and my boyfriend ordered scrambled eggs and sausage with black coffee. Both meals came with about 2 slices of buttered toast (cut on the bias) and a big helping of breakfast potatoes. My omlet came out just right with a good portion of spinach and sliced turkey breast cooked into it. My boyfriend had no complaints regarding his meal turning the eggs, sausage and potatoes into a sandwich with the bread. What can I say, he's an innovative guy. The only thing I didn't like as much were the potatoes, something about the seasonings that were used but they were still quite palatable. The waitresses also did a great job making sure my boyfriend's coffee cup was filled at all times. Overall our meal was pretty good. I think our total came out to maybe $15 bucks after everything was said and done. For that price we'll be coming back again.

Great coffee, food and service! The food taste is not quite up to my normal 4 star ratings , but the service and low prices bumped up the score. Atmosphere is strip mall diner with bar stools and a few tables. The menu had the usual breakfast options and some lunch entrees as well. I honestly forgot how much my bill was, but I remember being very pleased with getting that much food for so little money in the ft lauderdale area. The breakfast potatoes were very nicely seasoned, and the rest of the eggs and bacon was hot and fresh. What stood out was the service. Everytime the owner/manager as well as 2-3 staff members walked by my table, they offered to refill our drinks and asked if we needed anything. It was not intrusive, but was just the right amount of professional curtesy and what looked like genuine job satisfaction. I don't remember any one-of-a-kind menu items, but if I am in the area again, particularly the airport or cruise terminals, this will be an excellent option for a cheap but tasty breakfast!

This is a small dining establishment but well worth the visit. Good food, reasonable prices and really friendly staff. Stop in for early morning coffee. You won't be disappointed. Olivia is the best waitress. She deserves a raise in pay.

American Coffee shop is a small family owned Cuban restaurant that gives you the best of American and Spanish cuisine. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. I come here with my grandfather once a week and we're treated like family. It's clean and very home like. The prices are fair, 95% of the menu is under $10 so you can't beat that. You get your money's worth it sure. I highly recommend trying this place once and hopefully making this restaurant a place to recommend to others

The friendliest dive in Florida! My first time here and the food was good and inexpensive. Service was amazing and our server, Nelson, introduced himself and asked us about ourselves. The food was good and hot and a very clean place. I had the country scramble which consisted of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and home fries. It all tasted great. We will be back to try the french toast. They serve cortaditos for coffee lovers.

I rarely give 5 stars because 5 stars are for those places were you can't find anything wrong. There you go. This place is flawless because they deliver what is promissed. Simple and honest food, well made, fast service and nice people. It's a very small place, 30 people max, but highly recommended. If you want to have something that will fill your empty stomach with happiness, come here! Great mix of american and cuban cuisines. Have home fries and pan con lechon!! Why not? I repeat: have a Pan con Lechon!!!

I've found my new breakfast spot! I saw this place on here while looking for a good affordable breakfast restaurant yesterday morning. When we arrived I was a little bit worried by the strip mall surrounding it, almost to the point that we just turned around. I'm glad we did not. The owner greeted us upon entering, introduced himself, asked our names. A personal touch that I'm not used to but was definitely appreciated. The vibe was that of a Midwestern diner, very homey feel. The food was excellent for the price and the Café Cubano was delicious. Exactly what a breakfast diner should be. Loved it!

Good food very cheap. In a non descript strip mall in industrial part of town. Friendly staff. Name is actually American and Spanish Food, which I'm guessing was added later. Typical breakfast food with lunch choices of Mexican dishes. Nothing fancy just hardy food. Won't show up on any hipster's radar. Cook/manager came out and checked on everyone, which I respect as a small biz owner.

Everything was really good. The waffle was a bit overdone, but I find waffles are very hit or miss at most of the breakfast joints down here. We ordered two types of coffee, but they only charged us for one which was nice of them. The resturant looks and feels extremely clean, and the staff was very nice. At the end of our meal, the owner or maybe the owners son asked us if everyhting was good and if it was our first time. He geuinely seemed curious about it which is rare.

My husband, toddler, and I stopped in for breakfast this morning...and we're so glad we did. The cafe con leche was fantastic, and our omelets were perfectly prepared. The service was outstanding- everyone went out of their way to make certain we were happy (even my 2 year old!). Looking forward to returning to try the lunch menu.

Great breakfast. Great price (all four of us were completely stuffed afterwards, total was $35.00), and great service. Give this place a chance, looks average from outside but once your inside its a gem of a find. Totally worth it. Got an egg muffin (canadian bacon, egg, cheese, english muffin), french toast, two cafe con leche, poached egg platter, special sandwich platter, and egg platter. All excellent.

We were craving some breakfast food on the way to the airport at the end of our Florida vacation so stopped here. They had good comfort food and excellent coffee - you can always tell a place is solid when you see a half dozen local old men sitting around having breakfast. The service - from Nelson - was great. My boyfriend commented that even though we stayed at a fancy resort, this was by far the best service we'd had the whole trip.

I love sitting at the counter and watching the cooks do their thing. Service is great and everyone is friendly - you know they are glad to see you. The food comes quickly and is very good. They have chalkboard specials everyday. It's a small place and fills up quickly so at certain times, be prepared for a little wait. I've only been for breakfast so far and everything - food, service, prices - are better than any chain and even some of the other mom and pop restaurants. Next time: Lunch!

I was really hungry when I came here and I usually order very little for breakfast but I'm glad I ordered a lot this time. I got an egg white omelet with turkey sausage and spinach. It was fluffy, seasoned well and filling. There was a perfect amount of sausage and spinach. I got their home fries with my order and they just needed a bit more pepper and salt to make it to my liking. I also got wheat toast with my order. I know toast is just toast, but I really thought it was delicious and much needed to accompany the omelet (I'm a carb lover). My husband had the pancakes and I gave them a try and I couldn't believe how tall and fluffy they were. I found them to be a little less sweet than I prefer but I probably should just add more syrup to balance that out next time. The coffee was fantastic, it was smooth and not too bitter. One of the best that I've had at a diner. The owner was so friendly and welcoming. He made a great impression and you can really tell he values his customers. The servers were enthusiastic, helpful and quick. This is a great family friendly neighborhood coffee shop. I love to see young families and old couples in the same place to enjoy great food and friendly service. And I found that in The American Coffee Shop. I'll be back.

My boyfriend and I have definitely found our new breakfast place! We've gone twice now and the food was great both times. I absolutely love their waffles and their home fries are super tasty! The best thing about this place are their prices! A waffle for $3.50, 2 eggs, home fries and toast for $3.75- that can't be beat! I also love the staff! The owner or manager, Nelson, even remembered our names from the last time we visited! I look forward to our next visit.

Stopped in for an early Sunday breakfast. The menu has all the standard diner fare (eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy). BONUS: They have café con leche and they know how to make it!! I enjoyed an order of biscuits and gravy with two eggs. Everything was prepared correctly. I liked that the biscuits were grilled a little before topping them. Nice touch! My husband had an omelette with breakfast potatoes and toast. The omelette was HUGE!

I ended up visiting this great little restaurant as the result of a personal suggestion from someone who knows the hidden gems when she sees them. I immediately made an effort to visit for an early morning breakfast... and have been back a couple of times since then. Not only is the food great, but the overall ambience of this small "coffee shop" lends itself to a comfortable place to enjoy conversation and comfort food. Very impressed that the owner/cook, Nelson, makes it a point to visit each table to make sure everything is well received. I am a huge fan of a business where the owner exhibits a vested interest in making sure his patrons are well served! The American Coffee Shop has earned a place as one of my favorite "go to" places to start the day!

Just arrived into Ft. Lauderdale and loomed to Yelp to find a breakfast place. This had the highest ratings, don't be discouraged, it's a tiny place in a non assuming little strip mall. As soon as we walked in we were told to sit anywhere. We chose a booth and immediately someone came over with utensils and menus. A very nice lady came over to take our drinks order. I ventured & ordered a Cuban coffee, omg, good and strong. Ordered a mushroom & swiss omelet w/home fries. My husband ordered 2 eggs, pancakes and sausage. We have had better but it was good, hot and fresh. The service was great, the owner, i assume, kept coming by to ask if everything was good. Nice place, good food, inexpensive and good service.

We stopped by here after a softball game a Mills Pond Park for a quick breakfast. Would definitely recommend it! All the staff was very friendly, and there are many options to choose from on the menu. We both ordered espressos with steamed milk, and the breakfast sandwich: English muffin, egg, cheese and Canadian bacon, to go. The coffee was very sweet and delicious! Totally impressed. The sandwich was so good that I was sad when I finished it. The Canadian bacon was very tender and not tough and thin like many places serve it. Though the place is small, it has it's advantages. You can see the cook near the bar preparing everything to order. I saw several wine bottles too which made me happy. Haha. Come check this out! Next time I will take my time and enjoy the food a little better. :-)

What a nice surprise this place was! I really love supporting local small businesses whenever I travel. The food here was great and home cooked with care. And the cafe con leche hit the spot. Nelson (the owner) was really wonderful and welcoming. He was also very appreciative of his customers. If it hadn't been my last day vacationing in Ft. Lauderdale, I would've gone back again. I definitely recommend!

So, as of recently, my husband has gotten really into yelp and was determined to find a good breakfast spot... He ended up insisting we try this place based on the pictures and high ratings. When we pulled up on our first visit, I was slightly skeptical.. The place is very small and in a strip mall.. Didn't look like much..but I sure was proved wrong as soon as our food arrived!! The food here is fresh, delicious, and comes out very fast!! Everything was above average and tasty... The steak and eggs, omelets, breakfast croissant sandwiches, and the pancakes-fluffy and perfect! On this last visit, I tried the cafe con leche and I am still thinking about it! It was the best cup of coffee I have ever had.. Perfect 10! Staff is also very friendly and very accommodating even with our 7 month old!!! We plan on many more visits!!

I found American Coffee Shop on Yelp while my boyfriend and I were on vacation. We were in the mood for some breakfast on our second to last day in town and decided to give this place a try. It is located in a very odd spot, and the inside is super cramped and nothing short of simple. However, the staff is excellent! As soon as we stepped inside, a younger man greeted us enthusiastically and took us to a nearby booth. He asked us for our names, shook our hands, and asked where we were from. He was super friendly and outgoing, which was nice. Our waitress greeted us shortly after that and was just as friendly. I ordered French toast with bacon and my boyfriend ordered pancakes with bacon. Our food took quite a long time to come out, considering the place wasn't too terribly busy and it was a simple order. When the food arrived, we dug right in...we were hungry from the wait! I was given about 3 bread slices worth of French toast. One of the bread slices were slightly burnt and wasn't too great, but the others were prepared perfectly and tasted delicious. I tried a bite of my boyfriend's pancakes as well and those were very good too! Super fluffy and perfectly prepared. The bacon was thin, but tasted great. My boyfriend had not been feeling well from the time we woke up, and barely made a dent into his meal. When he asked for a box, the man who greeted us when we first walked in asked if the meal was okay and if there was anything he could do to make it better, and when my boyfriend explained he just wasn't feeling well and that it was separate from the meal, the man was very nice and wished us well, adding he hoped my boyfriend felt better soon and was sorry he wasn't feeling the best while we were on vacation. We will be back next time we're in town!
